All organizational members are expected to uphold the CORPS Code of Ethics.

• CORPS de Ballet Members, Officers, Board of Directors and Honorees shall act with honesty, courtesy, integrity, and consideration in all professional and business endeavors with each other and with professional and non-professional dance organizations and individuals.
• CORPS members shall act in compliance with the Mission of the organization, and its Constitution and By-Laws, and shall not bring the organization into disrepute.
• CORPS members will promote the empathy, humility, and curiosity necessary to reason carefully and compassionately in their conversations and interactions.
• CORPS members will foster a supportive environment that allows for constructive disagreement.
• CORPS members will seek to promote equal opportunities, engage with the world, and actively embrace inclusive and non-discriminatory practices.

Consent to Touch

All conference participants, Presenters, and Guests are expected to ask permission and receive consent before touching others within the context of presentations, classes, and general communication. Individuals have physical autonomy and may opt out of tactile cuing, hands on corrections, or peer partner work at any time without repercussions. Conference participants and guests should always request permission of students before using touch. Comfort levels may change day-to-day or even within the span of a presentation or class. We ask that everyone refrain from any kind of touch that could cause harm or be perceived as invasive.

 

General Communication Guidance

• Grace & Compassion – Practice compassion for ourselves and others. None of us is perfect, and we all deserve permission to make mistakes. Practice giving each other the benefit of the doubt. 
• Use “I” statements. Avoid speaking for others. Allow space for others to find their words.
• Be mindful of how words can cause harm and may be received differently than intended. (i.e., joking about violence)
• Forging new paths will take time and require respecting of boundaries as we acknowledge our shared history and unique perspectives.
• Seek first to understand and then to be understood (i.e., ask questions from a place of curiosity) using the art of listening to understand, rather than only to reply.
• Preferred Pronouns – Respect others preferred pronouns, and practice using gender inclusive pronouns when possible.

 

Conference Presenters and Guest Artists

• Member Presenters are selected through a double-anonymized adjudication process, and Guests are invited based on recommendations from the membership.
• All individual members, Presenters, and Guests speak as private individuals. Any personal opinions, statements, and perspectives shared during conference or organizational events are not shared as representative of the organization. 
• Presenters and Guests are expected to adhere to the CORPS Code of Ethics when presenting, teaching, and communicating with all conference participants
